Our story

It all began with a snowman and a job offer that evaporated into a massive industry downturn and 3-year hiring freeze. On an unseasonably cold October night, a young woman whose entire future had been erased with one phone call a few months earlier desperately wanted to liven up her home. She painted a cute little snowman and gave him a yellow scarf. He brought so much joy that she wanted to share him with other people.

Hotchpotch Craft started out as a medley of original acrylic paintings and handmade crafts being sold on Etsy from 2015-2017. The vision was bigger, but the budget was small. The shop was also ahead of its time on the platform - not specialized enough to catch the eye of bloggers and marketplace features, but at the time, not allowed to be general enough with vintage items to flesh out the envisioned themes. So in December of 2022, revived and ready to be all it was originally intended to be, Hotchpotch Craft came together.

Hotchpotch Craft aims to reignite the nostalgia of a pre-digital age, when people sat down to paint, make music, read books, sew, crochet, woodwork, and build models for leisure time. A time when your grandmother’s fine crystal candle holders, homemade quilted jam cozies, and your grandfather’s ship-in-a-bottle didn’t seem like stuffy, outdated nonsense, but instead felt like comfort and love.
